Oscar Scat!
This piece of clicker training, whilst looking very ordinary, is actually the most difficult thing I have ever taught. I am asking Oscar to run away from the reward he hopes to receive for running away!

Carrot time...but only for seated llamas!!
Переглядів 4,9 тис.7 років тому
Probably the most useful thing I have ever taught, illustrated on this old video clip: requiring a llama to sit down (Kush). Note that in this sequence of handing out treats, no llama interferes with another. Any llama standing up misses his turn. Oh what cruelty!
Challenge for an alpaca!

Rolling takes quite a bit of energy. This clicker-trained alpaca has been challenged to roll four times in one direction. Can he do it?
Clicker training: llama displays recently learned movements, as well as old ones.

This is Oscar again. On this video you will see some new movements: in the last month I have managed to teach him to lie on his side. This took me ages because I had previously taught the roll, which begins with side-lying. I had to get him to stop in his tracks! It wasn't easy! Also, new on this video is the reverse turning on the "turn a roundabout" sequence.

This is a fun video of Oscar playing football with me. He would play all day!
Llama Haltering Problems
Переглядів 8 тис.9 років тому
I DO APOLOGISE for the sound quality of this clip. I tried to do a voice-over, but it is muffled. The gist of the film is that I am sharing the haltering problems that I seem to have a monopoly of, with anyone else that might have them. If you subscribe to my videos, you may know that my main interest is hands-off (off lead) training of llamas. It sometimes seems to me that as my hands-off work...
Llama Obedience: Recent Update on Clicker Trained Llama
Переглядів 2,6 тис.9 років тому
This is Oscar back again, practising movements he has learned in the past and showing off a couple of things he has learned recently. This includes the spin in the anticlockwise direction which I thought would be hard to teach but which he picked up in about ten minutes. Please note that we are working in an open field. Oscar is free to wander away any time he pleases...but he never does! But I...
Clicker-trained alpaca learning his colours
Переглядів 10 тис.10 років тому
This is just a fun, clicker exercise really. I taught my alpaca to drop knitted toys of three colours into a box ( incidentally, the dropping part of the exercise was very difficult in fact; it really stretched me) and then I wondered if he could consistently pick out just one of the three colours.
Stand Square

This is more than a trick; it is a very useful piece of llama training. I freely admit that it is one of the "waiting game" pieces of training that I've done, in that I've waited until the animal is doing exactly what I want, then captured it with a clicker. With repeats, when it reoccurs, over the following days or weeks, the hand and spoken cues are finally added. I do apologize for the wind ...
Alpacas: Cute .. but totally untrainable!
Переглядів 23 тис.10 років тому
The title is, of course, a come on! Banksy has been trained using the clicker (operant conditioning) method. The frequent rewarding seen on the video would not be necessary in "normal" circumstances, (and indeed would be a sign of weak/insecure training) but I was working under stressful conditions, namely with a cameraman present! Banksy is a suri alpaca. I do not know how he compares, in trai...
Alpaca retrieving
Переглядів 1,3 тис.11 років тому
Banksy, my alpaca,(my only alpaca!) is learning to retrieve and here is a short video of what he is doing so far. We have a LONG way to go: that run out should, of course, be much faster and...oops..he does tend to drop the sock a bit on the return run. (My cameraman kindly ignored those moments!) For those into clicker work, and have done some target training, the orange ball takes the place o...
Can a llama play basketball?

Clicker trained llama: his newest off-lead movements to signals
Переглядів 3,1 тис.11 років тому
This is Toby, showing some of his old, and a couple of his new, off-lead movements to hand and verbal signals. ( The new ones are: "Have a scratch" and "Kneel") Most of this training has been accomplished using a clicker and a few yummy treats! You will note that the clicker is absent in this video as the behaviour is already learned. The treats should also be absent but, well, Toby loves 'em a...

Omg the tricks had my chuckling! I loved this.
So glad they afforded you some amusement. Thank you for watching.
He's the type of person that would continue hitting after he got 21 in blackjack.
What are you using for treats?? I find that pellets are way too small and only for the open hand. I want a single treat that I can offer quickly/easily.
The very best you can do is to go along to your nearest horse-supply shop and buy a bag of horse treats. There will be a variety to choose from and different sizes and flavours. Failing that, if you don't mind giving your llama sugar occasionally, I find ginger biscuits are something all my lot would kill for. Then there's sweet apple and slices of parsnip. No need to be restricted to tiny pellets. Terry
Hello! Great video! Do you have a contact email? I'd like to request permission to use this wonderful video in an online course. :D
Hello, I've tried, unsuccessfully, to send you an e-mail, but you certainly have my permission to use any of my videos for your online course. Do you have a means of telling me you have received this?! Regards, Terry Crowfoot

Beautiful. Well done, Oscar. I love the "back-back" :-)
Absolutely stunning. What a lovely connection to this alpaca, Terry
Out of curiosity, how many miles have you driven a llama in one go?
instead of the cheesy music you should have used a "boing" sound effect
My boy will barely even take a treat from my hand. Don't know how I'm going to get him sheared
EXCELLENT!
Great rolls!
You have the most obedient lamoids in your possession.
Totally inspiring.
I am training llamas, and this is the most inspiring work I have seen yet for me. Thank you. I am grateful.
This is amazing. It's taken me 3 weeks of training just to get the llamas to come and let me put a halter on them. You've certainly raised the bar for me.
So funny and cute! Reminds me of Pepe Le Pew!
Llamas pronk to practice running away or to keep them fit and healthy. It is the equivalent of skipping for humans, which is done when people feel happy.
Oh my gosh the leggings!😂
2:52 Fat llama tries to roll over.
I love the part where he tries to roll over but he can’t because he is too fat. 2:52
Teach Toby how to sit down like a dog.
Banksy needs an alpaca friend to be with. Alpacas prefer being with their own kind.
Alpacas are not untrainable, it’s just they are more stubborn than llamas and demand praise, unlike llamas. Llamas work for praise.
I'm about to get llamas. I am very dedicated to being sure they are loved and productive animals. This video gave me a lot of confidence, and was fun to watch. I trained my dog very well, when I had one. This helped me start to understand how they are different.
And I would like to tell you, like everyone else did, how beautiful your children are. I do similar things with my cats, 'desensitizing' I didn't call it anything though, really supportive to see a professional. I would make them do things they hate, like roll on their belly, hold them upsidedown...and reward them for it. It's so much easier to groom them, and if they ever get hurt, I can do what Ever I have to do to keep them safe, with as little harm to everyone possible. You are such a beautiful llama parent!
Thank you for your message. I wish you well with the new llamas, they are wonderful animals to have and train.
What animal loves being considerate? Answer: drama llama.
This is great! Thank you. So many good ideas. Such beautiful animals.
Альпаки я вас очень люблю какие альпака лама
In America, we call the sport Oscar played soccer.
Proof you can teach an old llama new tricks, like you can teach an old dog new tricks. Who says you can’t teach an old llama new tricks? Oscar clearly is an old llama but is still learning new tricks.
Hopefully that whistle doesn’t hurt Oscar’s ears. Llamas have sensitive hearing.
Красивая альпака их дресируют.
This is mind boggling. How did she get them with their intelligence to do this is beyond impressive
Since llamas are like dogs, they are easy to train. This video is helpful for owners with naughty llamas.
Tengo un llama muy desarrollado el instinto juego como si fuera una llama más
Alpacas are actually very intelligent.
One of the best videos ever. Just beautifully amazing!
Love your videos. Hope all is well with you these days.
Arsenal should put this llama on the team instead of Lacazette
It does the acts simply bcos of the treats. Humans wud do the same if they're caged or confined for the rest of their lives. And its all juz for a show
We would love some new videos please Terry
It's amazing what you do Terry
I just subscribed to your UA-cam channel. I notice that you have not made a video for a few years. I do hope you and your amazing llamas are fairing well. I don't have a llama and only have seen them in person a handful of times at petting zoos and the like. I find your videos especially helpful in trying to capture llama forms in 3D needle felting using wool and alpaca fiber. I am far from mastering one yet but not because you don't offer the most wonderful video footage on llamas.
That’s so sweet.
I love this video! I really like the recalls and especially when the others don't react or come over. That is such excellent training. I also loved the driving. Thank you for making this video. I'm experienced in clicker training and I will start working with Llama's soon so it's very educational to see how they move and react in training. Thank you for making this video.
This is stupid. Obviously she is just waiting to film the llama doing her bidding. There are no mushrooms in a grazing field like that...
I'm painting a mural with a llama in it, and I wanted to find a particular position/angle for reference. I was looking at videos to see if I could screenshot a llama in motion and I found this and I'm in love. Llamas are very under-appreciated! Thank you for this charming video Terry!!
Hi Im watching from Australia, I love your videos, I have 5 alpacas ,I would love to start training them, are you going to make more videos, they are so impressive, thankyou I would LOVE to see more videos 🦙🦙🦙
Feel like this might be very helpful for shearing time...(?)
Well, how fun!! I have two older llamas, but may try to train them a little, anyway!! Where can I find a clicker? Wish you lived closer (I'm in Texas)
